Advanced races are designed for runners with solid mountain experience. We are talking about distances over 40 km, elevation gains exceeding 2,500 positive metres and terrain that includes technical passes, high-altitude zones and weather conditions that can change in minutes. At this level, preparation is comprehensive: periodised training, optimised nutrition, gear tested in detail and a well-defined race strategy. Cut-off times are tighter and aid stations more spread out. Spain has world-class advanced races, many of them with UTMB points and international recognition.
