Carreña Trail

Carreña Trail is held every September in Carreña de Cabrales, the capital of the Cabrales council and one of the gateways to the Picos de Europa. The race offers three formats, from a short night race to a demanding 30K, making it a versatile date on the Asturian mountain calendar.

Three ways to run through Cabrales

All three distances start and finish in Carreña, each with its own character:

  • Carreña Original Trail (30K) — 1,800m of gain over technical, demanding terrain at the foot of the Picos de Europa.
  • Speed Carreña Trail (9K) — a medium distance for those seeking mountain sensations without the demands of the long race.
  • Night race (4.5K) — a short headlamp race, a great way to try night mountain racing for the first time.

Cabrales, land of cheese and mountains

Cabrales is internationally known for its Denominación de Origen cheese, matured in natural caves in the Picos de Europa. The limestone high-mountain landscape around Carreña offers technical, spectacular terrain, with views of peaks over 2,000 meters.

Beyond the race in Cabrales

After the race, it’s worth visiting the Cabrales cheese ripening caves or heading to the Hermida gorge. Discover other mountain races in the Asturias region and plan your trip with the race planner.
