Gorbeia Suzien
The Gorbeia Suzien is a 32K skyrace with 2,400m D+ through the Gorbeia Natural Park in Bizkaia, summiting Mount Gorbea at 1,484 metres. It is one of the most demanding races on the Basque racing calendar and part of the Skyrunner World Series as a Premier event.
The course
The race starts and finishes in Zeanuri, a small village in the heart of the Gorbeia Natural Park. The course climbs to the summit of Gorbea, the highest peak in Bizkaia, crossing beech forests, mountain meadows and rock and ridge zones.
The 2,400 metres of elevation gain packed into a 32-kilometre course speaks to the sheer verticality of the route. The climbs are long and demanding, with steep sections where hands are needed.
Rock, mud and fog
The Gorbeia Suzien motto says it all: this is a race through rock, mud and fog. The Cantabrian climate turns every edition into a different adventure. Fog can be dense at altitude, mud is a constant on forest trails and wet rock demands total concentration.
The terrain combines technical mountain trails with exposed ridge sections. Conditions change rapidly: you can leave in sunshine from Zeanuri and find rain and wind at the summit of Gorbea.
