Trail Heróica Sacra
Trail Heróica Sacra is a mountain race that runs through the spectacular canyons of the Ribeira Sacra between the municipalities of Chantada and O Saviñao in Lugo province. Organized by Club Peña Saltasebes de Chantada, it reaches its 5th edition in 2026 with three individual distances crossing one of Galicia’s most impressive landscapes.
The Course
Three distances starting from Plaza de España in Chantada:
- Trail Largo (33 km) — 1800 m elevation gain. The flagship distance, running through the Miño canyons among heroic vineyards on impossible terraces, Atlantic forest and charming villages. Finish at Playa Fluvial de A Cova (O Saviñao).
- Trail Medio (23 km) — 1100 m D+. Shares sections with the long distance and offers a demanding challenge with the best views of the Ribeira Sacra. Also finishes at A Cova.
- Trail Corto (12 km) — 550 m D+. The most accessible distance finishing at the village of Belesar, perfect for discovering trail running in the Ribeira Sacra.
The Ribeira Sacra
The Ribeira Sacra is one of Europe’s most unique landscapes: river canyons where the Miño and Sil rivers have carved breathtaking gorges, with heroic vineyards cultivated on near-vertical terraces. Romanesque monasteries, riverside forests and stone villages complete a setting that justifies the trip. Discover more races in Galicia to complete your season.
After the Race
The Ribeira Sacra is a top gastronomic and wine destination. Don’t miss a catamaran ride through the Sil canyon, a visit to the Ribeira Sacra denomination of origin wineries, and local cuisine: octopus, empanada and Mencía red wines. The participant meal is served at 13:30, followed by a party with DJ.
