Granuja Xtreme: a wild challenge in the Montes de Oca
Granuja Xtreme is one of the most distinctive mountain races on the Burgos calendar. Starting from Pradoluengo, deep in the Montes de Oca, the organizers — Pimiento Negro — champion a spirit of their own: “more than a race, it’s a wild challenge with real character.” The event blends mountain competition with a playful edge, aimed at runners looking to push their limits on demanding trails without losing the festive feel of a grassroots trail race.
Three formats for every level
The flagship course, Granuja Xtreme, covers 27 kilometers with 1,500 meters of elevation gain, starting at 10:00. It combines technical trail sections with faster stretches, demanding both endurance and agility on mountain terrain.
For those who prefer a middle distance, Granuja offers 16 kilometers with 750 meters of climbing, starting at 11:00. It’s a solid entry point into the Montes de Oca without giving up a demanding route.
Pícara, at 12 kilometers and 500 meters of elevation gain, starts at 11:05 and is built for runners looking to enjoy trail running in a more accessible format — a great choice for a first mountain race.
The Montes de Oca, terrain with character
Pradoluengo sits in the Montes de Oca district of Burgos province, known for its mid-mountain trails, forests and a textile and industrial tradition tied to the village. The terrain — forest tracks, technical trail and steeper sections — suits both experienced runners and those getting started in mountain trail running.
Pradoluengo beyond the race
Pradoluengo is just over half an hour from Burgos city and close to Belorado, a town on the Camino de Santiago route toward Galicia. Using race weekend to explore the Burgos capital — with its Gothic cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site — or walk a stretch of the Camino is a great way to round out the trip.
