Berghaus
Berghaus Paclite 2.0 GTX
Waterproof jacket with a Gore-Tex Paclite membrane (around 330 g). Fully waterproof with taped seams, fixed adjustable hood, storm flap behind the zip and cuff adjustment. Packs down small in a vest. La Esquilaera – Puertu de Ruenes
La Esquilaera is a small mountain race with real character, held in Ruenes, in the municipality of Peñamellera Alta in eastern Asturias. According to the official poster of its second edition, it took place on 9 August 2026 at 10:00 over 12 km with more than 1,200 m of positive elevation and a cap of just 125 entries. The organisers present it as a race that recovers old mountain paths of the area.
A short, vertical course
The distance-to-climb ratio says it all: roughly 100 metres of ascent per kilometre on average. This is not a jogging race; it tests your legs, climbing technique and controlled descending. Lugged shoes, a good vest or hydration belt and, if the rules allow, poles all make sense here.
A small-field event
With 125 spots the atmosphere is intimate and the logistics simple. The flip side is that entries go fast: if you want the next edition, follow the organisers’ official channels and sign up the day registration opens. This page does not state any date for the next edition until the organisers announce it.
Peñamellera Alta beyond the race
The municipality is one of the eastern gateways to the Picos de Europa, with the Cuera range as a backdrop and the La Hermida gorge a few kilometres away. If you stay the weekend, discover more races in the Asturias region and plan your calendar with the season planner.
