Burriac ATAC!

Burriac ATAC! is a night mountain race that crosses the Burriac massif, the coastal ridge separating the inland Maresme from the sea. Organized by PIRI with support from the town councils of Vilassar de Mar, Cabrera de Mar, Cabrils and Argentona, the race starts at 9:00 PM from the town hall square in Vilassar de Mar and finishes in the early hours on the sand of Cabrera de Mar beach — a mountain-to-sea contrast that gives it a distinct identity on Catalonia’s trail calendar.

A route from inland to the coast

Both distances share the same spirit: leave an urban center, climb into the Burriac trails, and descend to the sea in the middle of the night.

  • Llarga (Long): 21.25 km with 851 m of elevation gain, the race’s flagship distance
  • Curta (Short): 15.42 km with 627 m of elevation gain, for those after a more approachable night-running experience

Both routes are mapped and verified on Wikiloc, with technical trail sections that are worth scouting in daylight if it’s your first time in the area.

A fully nocturnal race

What sets Burriac ATAC! apart from most Maresme races is that it runs entirely at night, with the finish line closing at 1:00 AM. That makes the headlamp the single most important piece of gear in your pack, ahead even of your shoes — without good light, the Burriac’s technical sections get tricky fast. The organizers describe it as demanding but not extreme, a middle ground built for experienced mountain runners looking to try the different feel of racing after dark.

The Maresme beyond the race

Vilassar de Mar and Cabrera de Mar sit just 25 km from Barcelona, making it easy to pair the race with a weekend trip along the Maresme coast. If you arrive the day before, take the chance to explore Vilassar de Mar’s old town or take a swim at Cabrera de Mar beach before it becomes the race’s finish line. Check out the rest of the races in the Catalonia region and plan your full season with the race planner.
