Terrain
The Aosta Valley is one huge massif: four of the best-known Alpine 4,000-metre peaks are here. Trail follows the Alte Vie, huts at 2,000-3,000 m, glacial passes and high pastures, with thousands of metres of climbing even over mid distances.
Key areas
Climate & best season
From June to September the high passes are clear of snow; September (Tor des Géants time) usually brings stable skies, but sub-zero nights above 2,500 m.
Trail culture
The Aosta Valley has lived trail for decades: the Tor des Géants circles the whole region along Alte Vie 1 and 2, and Courmayeur is also a stage of the UTMB.
