Tor des Géants: the loop around the roof of the Alps

The Tor des Géants is one of the longest and toughest races in the world: 330 km and about 24,000 m of positive elevation along Alte Vie 1 and 2, with 30 passes and life bases and refuges spread across the Aosta Valley. The limit is 150 hours, so sleep comes in short bursts.

A course from another planet

  • Distance: 330 km
  • Elevation: ~24,000 m D+
  • Time limit: 150 hours
  • Start and finish in Courmayeur, at the foot of Monte Bianco

Every descent from a pass ends at a life base with hot food, beds and assistance. Managing sleep and nutrition decides the race as much as your legs.

September at altitude

September usually brings stable skies, but above 2,500 m nights drop below zero and storms or snow can arrive. Technical gear and a thermal layer are not optional.
