7th Trail del Tamburieḷḷo

The Trail del Tamburieḷḷo is the result of a small village’s determination. Setienes, just 3 km from Luarca in the Valdés municipality, stages the race through its neighbourhood association (together with La Granda) and Club Deportivo Capiecha Martín. The seventh edition is announced for Saturday 20 March 2027.

A course of tracks and old paths

The race offers two timed distances, starting and finishing in Setienes. The 22K has around 1,200 m of elevation gain and suits runners looking for a serious effort, with sections of hill and forest. The 10K, with about 500 m D+, is a quicker way in. According to the organisers, the terrain follows old paths and tracks with very little asphalt. There is also a children’s race with a charitable purpose.

A trail with village soul

What sets this race apart is its community spirit. Locals throw themselves into the organisation, the event has driven a reforestation campaign in the area, and the finish is celebrated with a home-cooked fabada bean stew, plus changing rooms and showers. It is an event where the atmosphere matters as much as the clock.

Preparing for race day

March in western Asturias means damp ground and mud. Pick shoes with good grip, carry a light windproof layer in case the weather changes and match your fuelling to the distance: on the 22K, a couple of gels and an isotonic drink are enough for most runners.

Luarca beyond the race

Use the weekend to stroll around Luarca’s harbour, the “White Town of the Green Coast”. Discover more races in the Asturias region and plan your trip with the race planner.
