Zenagas Trail

Zenagas Trail is one of the most established mountain races in southern Castilla-La Mancha. It is held in Puertollano (Ciudad Real), runs through the Dehesa Boyal and the Sierra de Puertollano, and is the race that closes the Castilla-La Mancha CxM Cup every season. The long distance is 26 kilometres with around 1,300 metres of positive elevation, and the event is completed with hiking routes and a children’s mini trail.

A 26-kilometre course

The route combines tracks and trails through the holm-oak dehesa with harder ramps in the Sierra de Puertollano. It is not a high-mountain course, but the 1,300 metres of climbing spread across short, frequent ascents make it a quad-wrecking race, especially in the second half. The ground alternates compact dirt, loose slate and the odd muddy section on the shaded slopes if it has rained.

Puertollano, mining and dehesa

Puertollano grew on coal mining and petrochemicals, and that industrial past coexists with a surprising green belt: the Dehesa Boyal, the Fuente Agria spring and the sierra that closes the valley to the south. The race embraces that contrast and has been a fixture of the federation calendar for years as the season-closing event.

November in the southern plateau

On the second weekend of November, Puertollano wakes to dry cold (2-6 °C) and usually offers clear, bright days. A windbreaker for the start and sunglasses for the low head-on sun are the two things that make the difference. See more races in Castilla-La Mancha and plan your weekend with the planner.
