Tap Trail Cassà de la Selva
Tap Trail is the mountain race of Cassà de la Selva, organized by La Colla dels Taps de Suro with start and finish in front of the Aminda Valls pavilion, in the town’s sports zone. Now in its 7th edition, the race has become a fixture of the Circuit Trail del Girones, running through the trails of the Gavarres massif, a Mediterranean forest landscape and technical singletrack just outside Girona city. This year the race also debuts the Petjada Verda green seal, certifying responsible use and upkeep of the natural environment it crosses.
A Route with Four Distances
Tap Trail offers options for every level, from a family walk to the flagship distance:
- Trail i Mitja (31K): the toughest distance, starting at 8:00 with a 6-hour cutoff
- Trail (21K): starts at 8:30, with a 5-hour cutoff
- Express (16K): shares the start with the Trail, 4-hour cutoff
- Marxa (12K): non-competitive and untimed, ideal for beginners in trail running or a family outing, with a 3h30 margin
On Saturday, October 31, the kids’ races (3K and 5K, ages 4 to 10) also take place, turning the weekend into a family event as well.
Technical Trails and Environmental Commitment
The route combines forest tracks with narrow singletrack, some sections running next to drop-offs marked with horizontal tape by the organization. The race regulations stress that participants need basic mountain skills and the ability to read a route map if lost, a note especially relevant for the Trail i Mitja. This year Tap Trail debuts the Petjada Verda seal, recognizing the organization’s commitment to waste management and the conservation of les Gavarres’ protected flora and fauna.
Cassà de la Selva Beyond the Race
Cassà de la Selva sits just 15 km from Girona city, making it easy to pair the race with a visit to the historic city, its walls and Jewish quarter, or with the Costa Brava, less than half an hour away by car. Girona-Costa Brava airport, only 10 km away, also simplifies logistics if you’re traveling from further afield. Check out the rest of the races in the Catalonia region and plan your full season with the race planner.

Frequently Asked Questions
- When is the Tap Trail 2026?
- On Sunday, November 1, 2026, with staggered starts from 8:00 (Trail i Mitja) to 8:30 (Trail, Express and Marxa), all from the Aminda Valls pavilion in the Cassà de la Selva sports zone. On Saturday, October 31, the kids' races of 3K and 5K take place.
- What distances does the Tap Trail offer?
- Four modalities: the 31 km Trail i Mitja, the 21 km Trail and the 16 km Express, all timed and competitive, plus the 12 km Marxa, a non-competitive walk open to hikers.
- Is mandatory gear required?
- The final mandatory gear list depends on the weather conditions in the days before the race; the organization confirms it by email and at the pre-race briefing. A lightweight windbreaker, emergency blanket and whistle are a sensible base for any autumn mountain race in this area.
- Is the 31K distance guaranteed to run?
- Not necessarily: the organization may cancel the Trail i Mitja if there aren't at least 30-40 registrations 15 days before the race, refunding the fee or allowing a switch to another distance.
