Flysch Trail Zumaia

The Flysch Trail Zumaia is a coastal race held inside a protected area of the Basque Coast Geopark. Its paths skirt the cliffs of the famous flysch, a sequence of sedimentary rock layers that makes this stretch of Gipuzkoa one of the most spectacular geological landscapes in Europe. Starting and finishing at Plaza Eusebio Gurrutxaga, it gathers 650 runners at most.

Two routes through the flysch

The 24K adds 1,007 m of positive elevation and the 14K 487 m D+. They are leg-breaking courses, with constant ups and downs on coastal paths, tracks and technical sections, at low altitude but with a very demanding profile for the distance.

Autumn on the Basque coast

In early October the temperature is pleasant, but rain is a real possibility and rock and mud turn slippery. Lugged shoes, a light jacket and your own container to drink from (no cups at aid stations) are the base of a good race.

Zumaia beyond the race

Use the trip to visit Itzurun beach, the path to the San Telmo hermitage or neighbouring Getaria.

If you are combining your trip with other races nearby, take a look at the races in the Basque Country and plan your season with the planner.
