Madeloc Skytrail: skyrunning above the Mediterranean

In Banyuls-sur-Mer the Pyrenees plunge into the sea. The terraced vines that make the famous sweet wine climb slate slopes up to the Tour Madeloc, a medieval watchtower more than 600 m above the Mediterranean. That is the setting of the Madeloc Skytrail, the perfect season finale.

Four races and two challenges

  • Trail des Crêtes: 45 km / 2,600 m D+ (Saturday 28, 7:00)
  • Trail de Madeloc: 28 km / 1,300 m D+ (Sunday 29, 8:00)
  • Trail de la Mer: 10 km / 300 m D+ (Sunday 29, 9:15)
  • Défi XL (60 km / 2,800 m D+) and Défi XS (40 km / 1,800 m D+) over two days

Technique and wind

Loose slate on the ridges and dry-stone walls demand sure footing. In November the tramontane can gust very hard: a windproof is not optional, even if the Mediterranean sun fools you at the start.

The Côte Vermeille beyond the race

Collioure, Port-Vendres and the Banyuls wine cellars are worth a long weekend. The Trails de Sorède run nearby earlier in the month. See the races in Occitania and plan with the race planner.
