Trail Valle de Samuño

Few mountain races can boast of finishing inside a mine. The Trail Valle de Samuño, organised by Club Deportivo GM Cumbre Llangréu, runs through the Protected Landscape of the Langreo Mining Basins and crosses the gallery of the Valle de Samuño Ecomuseum, an industrial heritage site that the rest of the year can only be visited by tourist train.

Three races and a two-stage event

The 2027 edition is announced for 17 and 18 April. The TVxS (13 km, 730 m D+) opens the weekend and is the gateway to trail running: it shares legendary sections such as the Fugaos ridge and ends in the mine gallery. The TVS (22 km, 1,500 m D+) is Sunday’s main event. Those who want more can enter the GTVS (35 km, 2,200 m D+), which combines both races in two stages.

Terrain and gear

Almost the entire route follows sunken lanes, tracks and singletrack, with very little tarmac. In Asturian spring expect damp, mud and quickly changing weather: shoes with good grip, a light layer and the thermal blanket required by the 2026 rules are a solid base. Always check the rules of the current edition.

Langreo beyond the race

Use the trip to visit the Ecomuseum and the mining train, or to explore the rest of the Nalón valley. Discover other races in the Asturias region and plan your season with the race planner.
