Trail de Ubiña

Trail de Ubiña is held every summer in Tuiza de Arriba, a small village in the Lena council, at the foot of the Ubiña massif, one of the most important mountain groups in the Cantabrian Range. Organized by G.M. Llena Penaska, the event combines two distances that let both experienced mountain runners and those tackling their first demanding trail take part.

A route around the Ubiña massif

Both races start in Tuiza de Arriba and head into the trails and tracks surrounding the massif:

  • Trail Ubiña (21K) — the main distance, with technical trail sections and climbs through the mountains that give the race its name.
  • Carrerina (15K) — a shorter but still demanding version, ideal for those getting started with medium-distance mountain races.

Summer in central Asturias’ mountains

Late August in Lena usually brings good weather, with mild temperatures on the summits, though the sun can be strong in the more exposed sections of the route. Expect a mix of track and mountain trail, so grippy footwear is a good idea.

Beyond the race in Lena

The Lena council is a gateway to the Ubiña-La Mesa massif and offers hiking routes, pre-Romanesque heritage, and hearty mountain cuisine. After the race, it’s worth exploring Pola de Lena or other parts of the Asturian Cantabrian range. To plan the full trip, check the race planner.
