Peón Trail
Peón Trail is held every summer in Peón, a parish in the Villaviciosa council, on the central Asturian coast. The race runs along the Cordal de Peón, a coastal ridge offering combined views of the Cantabrian Sea and, on clear days, the Picos de Europa. Organized by Empate, the event has grown in participation over its first editions.
A route between mountain and coast
Both distances start in Peón and climb the ridge that gives the race its name:
- Trail (18K) — the main distance, with climbs along the Cordal de Peón and technical trail sections.
- Carrerina (9K) — a shorter version, accessible for runners getting started in trail running.
Summer on the central Asturian coast
Late August in Villaviciosa usually brings stable, good weather, though the sun can be strong on the more exposed sections of the ridge, with little tree cover at higher points. The proximity to the sea softens temperatures compared to inland areas.
Beyond the race in Villaviciosa
Villaviciosa is known as the cider capital of Asturias, with a historic old town and nearby beaches like Rodiles. After the race, take the chance to explore the coast or check out other races in the Asturias region. Check the race planner to organize the full weekend.
