Five days of trail around Lake Como

UTLAC (Ultra Trail Lago di Como) is Lombardy’s ultra-distance fixture: five days of racing from 5 to 9 May 2027 with the lake as the stage and Lecco and Como as base camps. The flagship is 259 km and 12,430 m of climbing circling the lake on high trails, with more vertical gain than UTMB.

The rest of the programme lets you in through the side door: the 122 km Lake Como Ultra Trail with 6,209 m, the 62.5 km Lake Como Trail with 3,755 m from Como, a 32 km with 1,872 m and a 13.5 km with 740 m that closes the party on Sunday in Lecco.

A course with three characters

The route mixes villages hanging on the eastern shore (Varenna, Bellano), the chestnut woods of the Triangolo Lariano and the Grigne trails, where the ground turns to rock and steps. There are night sections and widely spaced aid stations up high: managing food matters as much as running.

Getting there and where to sleep

Lecco and Como are 40-60 minutes by train from Milan and under an hour from Bergamo airport. For the 259 km, sleep close to the start and book months ahead: lakeside hotels spike over the early May holidays.

May at Lake Como is cool and damp: 8-18 °C, possible rain and fog up high. Poles recommended, waterproof shell mandatory and a headlamp with spare battery. More alpine ultras at /en/races/italia/lombardia/ and kit at /en/planner/.
