The causses and the Tarn gorges

The Lozère Trail is the mountain race of Lozère, an empty, enormous department where limestone causses break into gorges. The flagship event is 110 km and 5,600 m split over two stages: a 56 km, 3,200 m loop on Saturday and the remainder on Sunday.

The terrain varies constantly: dry-stone plateaus, pine forest, the Tarn canyon and the village of Sainte-Énimie, with exposed passages and a few equipped sections. There are no big summits, but the climbing never pauses.

Five races and one night

The 52 km 2 Rivières links Sainte-Énimie with Chanac, the SkyRace Gorges du Tarn packs 1,900 m into 25 km, the Lozère Trail 25 km is the softer version and the 12 km Salta Bartas opens the sport to beginners.

Preparation

May in Lozère can bring 25 °C or hail. Carry two hours of water, as springs are scarce, and train the loose stone of the causses. Mandatory kit includes windproof, thermal blanket, whistle and reusable cup.

Sleeping in Chanac, Mende or Sainte-Énimie is the practical choice; the village fills that weekend. More Occitanie races at /en/races/francia/occitania/ and kit at /en/planner/.
