Waterproof jacket with a Gore-Tex Paclite membrane (around 330 g). Fully waterproof with taped seams, fixed adjustable hood, storm flap behind the zip and cuff adjustment. Packs down small in a vest. Heavier than a pure running hardshell, but it meets the waterproof-breathable membrane requirement in race rules and is the affordable route into Gore-Tex.

The winter ultra of the Cévennes
The Céven’Trail began as a local mountain race and is now one of the toughest winter ultras in southern France. It starts in Le Vigan, in the Gard, and heads into the ridgelines above the Navacelles cirque and the Rocher du Loup massif for 101 km and 4,500 m of climbing.
The start is at 04:00, so the first hours are run by headlamp in the cold. The organisers publish a Rocher du Loup escape route (km 71) in case weather forces a shorter course, which is common in March.
Five races in one day
The Trail aux Étoiles (63 km, 2,400 m) starts at 11:00, the Trail des Châtaigniers (42 km) and Trail du Vigan (23 km) complete the card, and the 12 km Ronde des Châtaignes opens the sport to beginners. The life base is in Bez with hot soup all night.
Preparation
The climbing is gentle but stony, with many kilometres on track and chestnut-path singletrack. Train with a headlamp, test rain gear and look after your feet, because March mud bites. Mandatory kit includes windproof, thermal blanket, whistle and water reserve.
Sleeping in Le Vigan or Ganges is easiest. More Occitanie races at /en/races/francia/occitania/ and kit at /en/planner/.
