Trail race calendar in Brittany 2026
Also known as Gulf of Morbihan
France's Atlantic peninsula: granite, salt marshes, beech forests and a coastline you run with the tide. Here trail running is not measured in vertical gain but in kilometres of coast, and the Ultra Marin gathers 10,000 runners around the Gulf of Morbihan.

Terrain
Brittany is an old, eroded granite massif: gentle hills, no high mountains, but a deeply indented coastline with dozens of islands, headlands and salt marshes. Trails mix sand, rock and dirt, with short, constant climbs. The GR 34 runs the whole Breton coast and is the region's technical reference. The tide dictates the route: some sections only pass at low coefficient.
Key areas
Climate & best season
Pure oceanic climate: mild all year, with frequent rain and wind. The ideal window runs from May to October, when daylight lasts late and the trail is drier. Winter means mud, short days and Atlantic storms.
Trail culture
Brittany has a distinct identity: the Breton language, lighthouses and beacons, crêpes and cider, fest-noz dances and a seafaring culture visible in every village around the gulf. Runners come for open coast and find a deeply humanised landscape of customs paths, oysters and small harbours. It is the natural destination for Spanish runners looking for an ultra without altitude.
