Bibracte Ultra-Trail: an ultra in the capital of the Gauls

Bibracte was the great city of the Aedui Gauls: this is where Vercingetorix was proclaimed leader of the coalition against Caesar. Today Mont Beuvray and its archaeological museum are the start of the Morvan’s first ultra-trail, in a regional nature park of deep forests, ancient hedgerows and old paths.

Five races with Gallic names

  • Ultra des Druides: 185 km / 5,500 m D+ (48 h)
  • Grand Trail des Vergobrets: 100 km / 3,000 m D+ (26 h)
  • Balade de Dumnorix: 63 km / 2,000 m D+ (15 h)
  • Gran’ Canche: 36 km / 1,000 m D+ (6 h)
  • Course des Mines: 12 km / 550 m D+ (3 h)

A true autumn ultra

Mid-November in the Morvan means nights over 14 hours long, fallen leaves, mud and near-freezing temperatures. The climbing is moderate for the distance, so it is a runnable ultra: the key is managing cold, wet feet and fuelling through the night.

The Morvan beyond the race

Visit the Bibracte museum, Autun and its cathedral, and the Burgundy vineyards less than an hour away. Find more events among the races in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and plan your calendar with the race planner.
