Arrasate-Udalatx mendi lasterketa
The Arrasate-Udalatx is a mountain race that climbs from Arrasate / Mondragón, in the Alto Deba valley (Gipuzkoa), to the limestone massif of Udalatx (Udalaitz), the area’s most recognisable peak. It is organised by Mondraitz Kirol Kluba, and the 11th edition takes place on Saturday 27 February 2027, with the start at 09:30.
A 22 km course with 1,400 m of climbing
The race covers 22 km with 1,400 m of positive elevation gain, starting and finishing at Herriko Plaza, with 5 aid stations. Expect:
- Long climbs from the valley up to the white limestone ridges of Udalatx.
- Technical descents on rock and damp trail, where grip makes the difference.
- Track and trail sections where you can recover your rhythm.
The time limit is 4 h 15 min, with checkpoints at km 13 (Balcón de Txukurrillo) and km 18 (Udala district). The route changes slightly from year to year: in 2025 the organisers altered it to protect birdlife, avoiding the Besaide area and adding the Anporreta summit. The 2027 course and GPX are on the official website.
February in the Basque Country
The race is held in mid-winter: mud, wet rock and wind on the summits. Mandatory gear includes a windproof jacket, a thermal survival blanket and a cup or soft flask. Places are allocated by lottery from 17 to 31 October 2026 (400 bibs); see the details on the organiser’s registration page.
Arrasate and the Alto Deba beyond the race
Arrasate is an industrial, cooperative-minded town with good pintxos bars and cider houses close by. Bergara, Oñati and the Arantzazu sanctuary are a few kilometres away. If you are planning a trail season in the Basque Country, see the other races in the Basque Country region and organise dates with the season planner.
