Juan Migueliz Leyre Trail

The Juan Migueliz Leyre Trail (JMLT) is a mountain race through the Sierra de Leyre in Navarra, starting at the Monastery of Leyre. Run by the club CM Trotecuto, it reaches its 9th edition on 17 October 2026. The organisers describe it as “hard, fast and technical”.

Two distances

  • JMLT 21K: about 1,400 m of elevation gain over 21 km, with a 4-hour limit and a checkpoint at the Portillo de la Cerrada that you must pass within 1 h 35 min.
  • JMLT 7K: 6.8 km with about 574 m D+ and no time limit. A good entry point into mountain running, or a short, all-out effort.

The field is capped at 400 runners across both races, and the start is at 10:00.

A lot of climbing in a small area

The course passes through the partner villages of the sierra: Liedena, Caseda, Rocaforte, Yesa, Javier and Aibar. A fast pace on technical terrain means the 21K runs quicker than its 1,400 m D+ suggests. In October, mud and wet leaves are common: shoes with good lugs and a windproof in your vest are the safe bet.

2026 edition logistics

Entry is handled through Kronoak and closes on 8 October. Since 14 September the fee is €35 (21K) and €25 (7K). Accident insurance is included and you must show ID when collecting your bib.

The Sierra de Leyre beyond the race

Make a weekend of it: visit the Monastery of Leyre, Javier Castle and the Yesa reservoir area. For more races in the region, see the Navarra race calendar and add this one to your planner.
