Crono Asperillas

Crono Asperillas is a mountain time-trial race held every year in Casas del Castañar, a small town in the Jerte Valley (Cáceres). In 2026 it reaches its 17th edition, cementing itself as a classic date on Extremadura’s mountain running calendar and a fixture of the official FEXME calendar. The organization caps the race at 150 bibs, giving it a close-knit, local character compared to the valley’s larger events.

A 14.5 km course with 740 m of elevation gain

The time-trial format, with staggered starts, is the race’s trademark. The main distance covers 14.5 kilometers with 740 meters of elevation gain along the trails surrounding Casas del Castañar, crossing cherry orchards and chestnut woodland typical of the area. For those who prefer a more approachable challenge, there’s the Mini Crono Asperillas, at 5.5 km and 380 m of elevation gain, open from age 13.

A close-knit event in the Jerte Valley

Unlike other large races in the area, Crono Asperillas keeps the spirit of a village race: limited bibs, local organization, and a close relationship between runners and residents. The runner kit includes an official t-shirt, and the race usually runs alongside kids’ races, making it a family plan as much as a sporting one.

Casas del Castañar Beyond the Race

Casas del Castañar is part of the Jerte Valley, one of Extremadura’s most beautiful regions, famous for its spring cherry blossom and its mountain scenery year-round. September is also grape harvest season and late cherry season in some valley towns. Take the chance to explore nearby villages like Cabezuela del Valle or Jerte, and if you want to plan the full trip in more detail, check our race planner.
