II Almaraz Backyard Ultra Energía Infinita

The Almaraz Backyard Ultra takes place on 14 November 2026 at the town’s multi-purpose sports hall, starting at 9:00. It is organised by Vueltas a la Cabeza within the official Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra calendar, and results count towards the 2028 Spanish Championship.

The format

In a backyard everyone runs a loop of about 6.7 km every hour on the hour. If you finish early you rest for the remaining time; if you go over 60 minutes you are out. The race ends when one runner completes one more loop than everyone else. There are four categories: Backyard Ultra (70 places), 100K (20 places, maximum 15 loops), marathon (20 places, maximum 7 loops) and pairs (10 teams).

The course

It mixes tracks, rural paths and urban sections. The day loop is 6.69 km with +183 m; when night falls it switches to a 6.67 km loop with only +74 m. Each loop is manageable, but fatigue builds hour after hour.

How to prepare

Logistics are the key: spare shoes, a headlamp, easy-to-eat food and dry clothes. See more races in the region and plan your trip with the planner.
