X Trail de Jalance: mountain racing in the Valle de Ayora-Cofrentes

The Trail de Jalance is one of the most established mountain races in inland Valencia. It is run in Jalance, a village in the Valle de Ayora-Cofrentes (Valencia) crowned by its Moorish castle and ringed by the mesas and sierras that frame the Júcar valley. In 2026 it joins the Sendas de Gigantes circuit, organised by Amida Sports alongside Jalance town council, bringing runners and hikers together around the same Mediterranean mountain stage.

The event offers two competitive distances and a fun walk, so it has room for both the runner chasing a demanding trail and anyone who wants to enjoy the scenery at walking pace. The village atmosphere, with its traditional leg of ham for the largest team, reinforces the participatory spirit of the day.

A route of 20.5 kilometres and 1183 metres of climbing

The distance menu lets you choose according to fitness and appetite for climbing:

  • 6K walk — non-competitive, open to all levels, ideal for families and first-timers.
  • 12.8K Sprint Trail — 629 m of climbing; a short but steep trail for those wanting intensity without the long distance.
  • 20.5K Trail — 1183 m of climbing; the flagship race, with a very high climbing ratio for the distance that demands pacing on the climbs to the mesas and legs for the technical descents.

The GPX tracks and elevation profiles are available on the race website, a valuable aid for scouting the toughest ramps before race day.

September in inland Valencia

In late September, the Valle de Ayora-Cofrentes still holds late-summer temperatures: pleasant mornings that warm up fast once the sun climbs. The sections over limestone sierra are exposed, so hydration, electrolytes and sun protection matter as much as your shoes. Anyone taking on the long Trail should set off with enough water in reserve between aid stations.

Jalance and the Valle de Ayora-Cofrentes beyond the race

Jalance is an inland destination with plenty to offer beyond the trail. Its Moorish castle, perched above the village, commands views of the valley, and the nearby Cueva Don Juan is one of the most visited show caves in the area. A few minutes away, Cofrentes adds its spa and reservoir, and Ayora rounds out the food and lodging options. It is a complete getaway for turning the race into a weekend of mountains and fresh water.
