Ultra Montseny
Ultra Montseny is an ultra-endurance race of 80K with 4,868m D+ through Montseny Natural Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Three distances: 80K, 55K and 32K. Held in April from Viladrau (Barcelona) with a night start.
Ultra Montseny takes runners through the most iconic areas of Montseny Natural Park, the highest coastal massif in Catalonia and one of the first UNESCO Biosphere Reserves declared in Spain. From dense oak and beech forests to open summits above 1,700 metres, the race offers a spectacular course less than an hour from Barcelona.
The course
The Ultra 80K has 4,868 metres of elevation gain. It starts from Viladrau and crosses the three main summits of the Montseny massif in a demanding loop with a night start.
Runners will cross:
- Matagalls (1,697m) - The most emblematic summit of Montseny
- Les Agudes (1,706m) - The highest point of the massif
- Turó de l’Home (1,706m) - The summit with the historic weather station
- Beech and oak forests - Technical trails with roots and moisture
Race options
Ultra Montseny offers three distances. The Ultra 80K (4,868m D+) is the flagship race with a night start. The Montseny 55K (3,079m D+) is a demanding point-to-point course to La Garriga. The Trail 32K (1,218m D+) is the most accessible option, ideal for a first mountain race in Montseny.
Night start
The Ultra 80K starts at 22:00 from Viladrau. Runners face the first hours through the Montseny forests in complete darkness with headlamps. It is a unique experience that adds an extra element of adventure and technical management. A powerful headlamp with a spare battery is essential.
How to get to Viladrau
Viladrau is 1 hour by car from Barcelona via the C-17. Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) is the closest, about 80 km away. You can also take the train to Vic and then a bus. Choose your trail shoes carefully for the technical and wet trails of Montseny.
