The race

The Gran Trail Sobrarbe was born in Aínsa, created by the Club Atlético Sobrarbe, and is now one of the most complete spring events in the Aragonese Pyrenees. With close to 1,200 entrants in 2025, it offers four main routes for every level, from the 14 km ZTrails Cruz Cubierta to the 69 km flagship.

The route

Start and finish are in Aínsa, a medieval town overlooking the meeting of the Cinca and Ara rivers. The courses follow trails, tracks and passes through Sobrarbe and link villages such as El Pueyo de Araguás, Tella-Sin, Laspuña, Puértolas, Labuerda and Boltaña. The 69K has 3,043 m of climbing and the 44 km marathon 2,090 m. Trail Zona Zero Pirineos (25 km, 980 m) is the ideal entry point for mountain running, and the 14 km ZTrails (510 m) is perfect for a first race.

When to go and what to expect

In late April the Pyrenees mix sun, mud and wind at altitude. You often start cold and finish in short sleeves, so carry a light windproof layer and a cap.

How to prepare

The organisation publishes the tracks before the race and offers a 15-week training plan. Recce the technical sections and train the descents, which punish the quads.
