Berghaus
Berghaus Paclite 2.0 GTX
Waterproof jacket with a Gore-Tex Paclite membrane (around 330 g). Fully waterproof with taped seams, fixed adjustable hood, storm flap behind the zip and cuff adjustment. Packs down small in a vest. Heavier than a pure running hardshell, but it meets the waterproof-breathable membrane requirement in race rules and is the affordable route into Gore-Tex.

The Cascadia 20 with a GORE-TEX membrane: stability and protection for rocky mountain terrain, keeping the foot dry on cold, rainy days.

U.Trail Lamer Winkel
The U.Trail Lamer Winkel is one of Bavaria’s most authentic mountain races. It is run in the Lamer Winkel, a valley in the Bavarian Forest (Bayerischer Wald) below the Großer Arber (1,456 m), the region’s highest peak, near the Czech border. It is organised by Team Gamsbock, a local trail club that has made the area a benchmark for German upland running.
A course over the Arber summits
- 54K: 2,600 m of climbing with over 70% on singletrack, linking the Großer Arber, the Kleiner Arber and the glacial Arbersee lakes.
- Two shorter distances with the same mountain character for newcomers.
The terrain is demanding: primeval forest, roots, granite boulders and long climbs that surprise anyone who thinks German uplands are easy.
July in the Bavarian Forest
In early July temperatures in the forest are pleasant (15-24 °C), though afternoon storms are common on the Arber. A waterproof jacket is essential.
The Bavarian Forest beyond the race
Bavarian Forest National Park, Germany’s oldest, with its treetop walk at Neuschönau, and the glass route of Bodenmais are must-sees. Find more races in Bavaria, the rest of Germany and plan your season with the race planner.
