Allgäu Panorama Marathon
The Allgäu Panorama Marathon is one of Germany’s most beautiful mountain marathons. Since 2008 it has started in Sonthofen, in the heart of the Allgäu, and runs along the Hörnergruppe, a chain of grassy summits with 360-degree views over the Allgäu Alps, Lake Constance and the Iller valleys.
A course of panoramas
- Ultra 69K: 3,200 m of climbing linking the Hörnergruppe and the peaks around Sonthofen.
- Marathon 42.2K: about 1,400 m on mountain tracks and trails.
- Half marathon 21.1K, plus Nordic walking.
The terrain mixes pasture tracks, ridge trails and technical descents to the valley. The ultra is demanding, with near-alpine climbing; the marathon is the ideal gateway to the mountains.
August in the Allgäu
August is hot in the valley (25-30 °C) and cool on the ridges. Afternoon storms are common: a waterproof jacket, hydration and sun protection make the difference.
