Ultrabericus Trail: 65 km around the Colli Berici

Ultrabericus Trail is the best-known trail race in central Veneto and a rarity in the Italian calendar: a 65 km ultra that starts and finishes in Piazza dei Signori in Vicenza, in the heart of the historic centre, in front of the Palladian basilica. From there the route loops the Colli Berici along single track, mule tracks and gravel roads, passing Arcugnano, Perarolo, San Gottardo, Pederiva di Grancona, Pozzolo, Villaga, Barbarano, Mossano, Nanto and Torri di Arcugnano.

Four ways to run it

The Integrale is the main event: 65 km and around 2,500 m of climbing, a 13-hour limit and 3 ITRA points. The Marathon cuts it to 45 km and 1,500 m, following the route to Villabalzana and linking back through Soghe and Villa di Fimon. The Twin is a mandatory mixed relay in two legs, 34 km with 1,500 m and 31 km with 1,000 m, with the changeover in San Donato. And the Urban offers 21 km and 700 m for anyone who wants the atmosphere without committing to an ultra.

A course that changes every year

The organisers alternate the direction: even years run clockwise, odd years anticlockwise. That means climbs and descents do not repeat the same way and previous years’ splits are not reliable. The route crosses private land that only opens on race day, so GPX tracks are published the week before.

10:00 start, night finish

The gun goes at 10:00 for the Integrale, Marathon and Twin, and at 11:00 for the Urban. The Integrale closes at 23:00, with cut-offs at Torri di Arcugnano (km 11), Torretta di Nanto (km 23), San Donato (km 34), Villa Bonin (km 45) and Valle dei Vicari (km 56).

Entry and logistics

Registration opens early in the year on the official website and the Integrale is the first distance to sell out. Italy requires a sports medical certificate. The big logistical advantage is the train: Vicenza sits on the Venice-Verona-Milan line and the start is a ten-minute walk from the station, so you can race without a car. Venice and Verona airports are under an hour away.

To compare with other races in the country, browse the races in Italy and plan the trip with the planner.
