Monte Grappa from a village of 2,000 people

Gran Raid delle Prealpi Trevigiane is the Monte Grappa mountain race, starting and finishing in Segusino, a village in the province of Treviso right beside the Piave river. In 2027 it runs on Saturday 15 May with 82 km and 4,950 m of climbing as the hardest race.

The programme drops to the 20 km GR20 with 1,200 m, passing through GR60 (61 km and 3,900 m) and GR40 (39.7 km and 2,385 m). All share the same ground: beech forest, First World War military tracks and open ridges over the Venetian plain.

A race with memory

The route crosses trenches, bunkers and mule tracks built between 1917 and 1918, when the Grappa was the front line. That past gives the race a sober character: no music at the high aid stations and a lot of respect for the terrain.

Weather and preparation

May in Veneto can bring 25 °C in the valley and 12 °C on the ridge, with mud in the wooded sections. This is a race of accumulated endurance rather than fine technique: train long climbs and broken descents.

Segusino is 50 minutes from Treviso and 40 from Bassano del Grappa. Village beds are limited: look at Valdobbiadene or Bassano. More northern Italian races at /en/races/italia/veneto/ and kit at /en/planner/.
