Trail Terras de Burón: Galicia’s winter trail
A Fonsagrada hosts its hardest mountain race in January. Trail Terras de Burón was born as «O Trail do Inverno» and keeps that identity: cold, mud, fog and climbs that never let up. The 2027 edition runs on Saturday 23 January with four options, three competitive and one popular walk.
Four courses, one kind of terrain
The Ultra Terras de Burón grows to 63 km and 3,300 m of climbing after link sections were removed: it is the race for runners who already know mountain ultras. Trail das Seimeiras is 30 km with 1,650 m, Trailiño 18 km with 1,000 m and the non-competitive walk 16 km with 800 m. Every route uses paths, tracks and lanes across the Burón district, with several tops exposed to the wind.
A district to run slowly
Burón is a land of upland meadows, Pyrenean oak woods and near-empty villages in eastern Lugo. The race turns that landscape into the real protagonist: muddy technical sections, wet rock and the odd snow patch when winter bites. The clock matters less than getting to the finish in one piece, and the organiser knows it: aid stations are generous and the atmosphere is family-sized.
Weekend logistics
A Fonsagrada is around 45 minutes from Lugo and 90 from Oviedo over the Puerto del Palo. Accommodation is rural and limited, so book as soon as your bib is confirmed: the village fills up for the weekend. If you travel far, sleep near the start the night before —the ultra leaves at 07:00— and use the trip to explore the rest of the calendar in races in Galicia; for the rest of the season, use the planner.
