CxM Miranda de Ebro

CxM Miranda de Ebro is the annual mountain race organized by Club Mirandés de Montaña, held in the Montes Obarenes, in the easternmost stretch of Burgos province. Its 2026 edition takes on a special role: it hosts the Castile and Leon Club Mountain Running Championship, run under FDMESCYL (Federación de Deportes de Montaña, Escalada y Senderismo de Castilla y León).

A course carved in limestone

The 26K Trail, the championship’s flagship race, climbs 1,477 m D+ across the trails and limestone ridges of the Obarenes, a mid-mountain range known for its rocky cliffs and oak-and-holm-oak forests. Runners who prefer a shorter distance can choose 15.5 km and 600 m D+, run either as the Popular (with rankings) or the Marcha (non-competitive, open to any fitness level). All starts leave from Parque Antonio Machado, right in the centre of Miranda de Ebro. Check our gear guide to prep the right footwear for this kind of technical terrain.

A club championship

What sets this edition apart is its scoring format: runners federated with an FDMESCYL club earn points based on finishing position, and the club with the lowest combined score among its top finishers wins. Non-federated runners can still race as Open, without entering the team standings. It’s a format that gives the 26K Trail a competitive edge you don’t usually find in a popular race of this size.

Miranda de Ebro beyond the race

Miranda de Ebro is a historic transport hub, sitting where Castile and Leon, La Rioja and the Basque Country meet. Its train station, on the Madrid-Irún line, makes it an easy destination without a car. Burgos city and La Rioja Alta — with Haro’s wine scene — are both under an hour away. Add CxM Miranda to your season planner if you’re after an autumn race with serious elevation and solid transport links.
