Trail El Tanque: pine forest and volcano in north-west Tenerife

The Trail El Tanque takes place on Sunday 8 November 2026 at 9:00 in the municipality of El Tanque, on the north-west side of Tenerife. It is a local mountain race backed by the town’s sports department.

Routes

The 2026 poster announces two distances: 21 km (Chinyero–Echeyde) and 11 km (Puerto de Erjos). Both run on forest tracks and trails through Canary pine forest, with the volcanic Chinyero area as the highlight. In earlier editions the 21K had around 900 m of positive elevation and the 10K around 400 m; the current course may differ, so check the official information before race day.

What to expect

The terrain mixes loose volcanic gravel, wide track sections and rocky technical trails. In November the start is cool because of the altitude (Erjos is above 1,000 m) and temperatures rise quickly, so dress in layers.

Preparation tips

  • Train descents on loose ground: volcanic gravel punishes the quads.
  • Test your grippy shoes before race day.
  • Carry a light windbreaker and a cap.
