Chilegua Trail: volcanic trail running in southern Fuerteventura

Chilegua Trail is the trail race of the La Pared valley, in the municipality of Pájara, in the south of Fuerteventura. It runs across the isthmus joining the island to the Jandía peninsula: bare volcanic mountains, ravines and cliffs dropping into the Atlantic. Organised by Alisios Training, it holds a UTMB Index and the ITRA green charter seal, with a strong commitment to sustainability and minimum impact.

Distances for every level

  • Half 25.3 km (1,014 m D+): the main race, 9:00 start and 6-hour limit.
  • Promo 11 km (380 m D+): ideal for newcomers, 4-hour limit.
  • Mini and Hiking 7 km (300 m D+): no cut-off, run or walk.
  • Spar Kids: 500 m to 2 km depending on age.

Sun, wind and sand: what defines the race

In October Fuerteventura still sits around 25 °C, and the course has no shade at all. The trade wind cools you down but it’s deceptive: it dehydrates and burns you without you noticing. That’s why the Half’s mandatory kit includes water, a survival blanket, whistle and phone, and the organisers recommend a cap, sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm. The terrain mixes tracks, trails with loose rock and volcanic sand.

Fuerteventura beyond the race

Stay a few days in Costa Calma or Morro Jable and discover Cofete beach, the Sotavento dunes and the sunsets at La Pared. Find more races in the Canary Islands and plan your season with the planner.
