Ultra Trail Barcelona 2027: the local ultra of the Bages

UTBCN was born from a simple idea: a runner from Barcelona province should not have to drive 200 km to race a proper ultra. The finish is in Sant Fruitós de Bages, 60 km from the city, and the course heads into the Bages hills, between the ranges of Caselles, dels Alous and del Vintró.

Four races, one terrain

The flagship is 61 km with 2,100 m of climbing, starting at 7:00 and closing at 18:30. Below it, the 40 km marathon with 1,200 m is the most popular distance for a serious challenge without the ultra load, and the 26 km half with 689 m is the entry point. The 11 km speed trail with 261 m completes the card for anyone short on time or wanting to sample the atmosphere.

The route

The terrain runs between 200 and 600 m of altitude: no big summits, but a constant chain of climbs and descents on track and trail. That makes it a fast race with no let-up, where going out too hard costs you in the second half. The course passes the castle of Rocafort, the church of Santa Maria de Rocafort and the castle of Talamanca, which is the cultural heritage the organisers lean on: castles, chapels and medieval churches right beside the trail.

Entry and logistics

Entries open in waves and the price rises with each one; the ultra sells out first. Start and finish are in the town centre of Sant Fruitós, so accommodation and parking are solved in the village itself or in Manresa, five minutes away. In May the Bages is genuinely hot, 25-28 °C at midday with very little shade on the tops.

To complete the calendar, look at the other races in Catalonia and plan the trip with the planner.

Who it is for

For local runners who want an ultra without a long-weekend logistics operation, and for anyone chasing a fast 61 km with the option to drop to the marathon if the day goes wrong. The 11.5-hour cut-off leaves plenty of room to walk the last kilometres home.
