The fast ultra of the Périgord

The Périgord Grand Trail is the benchmark race of the Dordogne, a department of forests, rivers and golden-stone villages. The Ultra du Périgord adds up to 90 km and 2,400 m of climbing, a low ratio that makes it a runnable ultra and a good first long distance.

It starts in Lalinde, passes Molières — home of the life base — and links chestnut trails, farm tracks and small medieval settlements. The prettiest moment comes at the Cadouin bastide and its Cistercian abbey.

From 90 km to 12 km

The Trail des Bastides (48 km, 1,400 m) is the most popular option, the Trace Pourpre (30 km) links Molières with Lalinde and the Trace du Cingle (18 km) is the entry point. The 12 km hike is a charity, non-competitive walk.

Preparation

This is a pacing race, not a strength race: train long steady runs and fuel from the start. Mandatory kit includes a headlamp (for the 90 km), windproof, thermal blanket and reusable cup.

Sleeping in Bergerac or Sarlat lets you explore the area for the rest of the weekend. More races at /en/races/francia/nueva-aquitania/ and kit at /en/planner/.
