Trail Castell de Serra
Trail Castell de Serra is one of the standout autumn dates on the Valencian Community’s mountain running calendar. Organized by Club d’Esports de Muntanya i Escalada Castell de Serra with support from the Serra town council, the race runs entirely within the Sierra Calderona Natural Park, a Mediterranean massif less than half an hour from Valencia city that combines pine forests, ravines, and views reaching the coast from its highest points.
A technical 32-kilometer route
The flagship format, the 32K Trail, packs 2,300 meters of elevation gain into intermediate-to-advanced single-track:
- 77% mountain trail, with technical sections between rock and Mediterranean scrub
- 19.5% forest track
- 3.5% urban and paved sections at the start and finish
For those preferring shorter distances, the Half Marathon (21K, 1,500m D+) and Sprint Trail (14K, 600m D+) share much of the technical course without the full toll of the longer route, making them a solid first taste of Sierra Calderona terrain.
Night start, mid-morning sun
The Trail format starts at 06:30, still in the dark, making a headlamp mandatory gear for the opening hours. As morning progresses, the course gains sun exposure on its track and ridge sections, with a Mediterranean autumn that in Valencia can still bring mild-to-warm midday temperatures. The organization marks the entire route with a low-impact philosophy toward the natural park, an explicit priority for the organizing club.
Serra and the Sierra Calderona beyond the race
Serra is the perfect gateway to the Sierra Calderona: an Arab-era castle overlooking the town, year-round hiking routes, and easy access to Valencia city for a full weekend trip. If you’re planning more than one race in the region, check out the Valencian Community races and organize your autumn calendar with the season planner.

RegistrationThree formats priced from €21 (Sprint) to €36 (32K Trail). Spots for the Trail and Half Marathon tend to sell out in the final weeks given the appeal of running inside a natural park.
Browse all registrationTips
- •Register early on Sportmaniacs: the longer formats cap bibs for environmental impact reasons within the natural park
- •Check the rules on the mandatory headlamp if you're running the Trail (06:30 start, still dark)
