Backyard Ultra Curillas
The Backyard Ultra Curillas is a last-one-standing ultra-endurance race holding its second edition on 3 and 4 October 2026 at El Juncal, in Curillas (Valderrey, León). A friendly rural atmosphere, with a whole village behind every start, including after dark.
How last-one-standing works
Every hour, on the hour, the bell rings and a 6.706 km loop begins. You must finish it within the hour and be back on the start line for the next one. It isn’t about who runs fastest: it is about who best manages effort, mind and time. There is no fixed distance; the race ends when only one runner is able to complete one more lap.
A 6.706 km loop
The loop combines dirt roads, tracks, trails and some village streets with about 90 m of ascent per lap. The terrain is fast and not very technical, so the challenge is endurance rather than difficulty. The start is at 9:00 and there are solo and team categories (18 and over).
Strategy for many hours
- Comfortable pace: finish each lap with time to rest, eat and change.
- A rest base next to the start: chair, food, dry clothes and spare shoes.
- Headlamp and thermal clothing: October nights on the León plateau get cold.
- Look after your feet: anti-chafe, blister patches and spare socks make the difference.
León beyond the race
Curillas is a short drive from Astorga, with its cathedral, Gaudí’s Episcopal Palace and local food such as cocido maragato. If you travel far, also see León city. Browse more events in the Castilla y León region, prepare your nutrition plan and add this backyard to the race planner.
