SachsenTrail

The SachsenTrail is Saxony’s big trail festival. It takes place in late June at Sportpark Rabenberg, a high-performance centre at 900 m in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge), a few kilometres from the Czech border. Endless spruce forests, old silver mines and trails along the border ridge define its landscape.

A course through the Erzgebirge

  • UltraTrail 74K: 1,920 m of climbing on a big loop through the forests of Breitenbrunn, Johanngeorgenstadt and the border ridge.
  • HalfTrail 36K: 843 m.
  • QuarterTrail 20K (506 m) and BaseTrail 16K (357 m).
  • UpHill Prolog 4.2K: 255 m of pure climbing on Friday to open the weekend.

The terrain is upland: forest trails with roots, forest tracks, moorland and the odd rocky section. It is a very accessible ultra for anyone stepping up from the mountain marathon.

A sustainable race

The SachsenTrail is committed to sustainability: there are no disposable cups and every runner carries their own. The atmosphere is family-friendly, with kids’ races and a party at the Sportpark.

The Erzgebirge beyond the race

The region is a World Heritage Site for its mining history. Visit the show silver mines, the Fichtelberg at Oberwiesenthal or the wooden Christmas craft workshops. Find more races in Saxony, the rest of Germany and plan your season with the race planner.
