Desafío Trail Templario
The Desafío Trail Templario is a mountain race held in Las Navas del Marqués, a town in the province of Ávila just 80 km from Madrid. It is part of the Circuito 4 Desafíos, a trail running circuit through the western Sierra organised by CDE Sierra Oeste.
The course
Las Navas del Marqués sits between the Sierra de Malagón and the pine forests of the Alberche Valley, at over 1,000 metres altitude. The courses combine forest trails through pine woods, gorges and intense climbs with views towards the Sierra de Gredos. The terrain mixes forest track, mountain trail and technical sections with rock and roots.
The distances
The Trail Templario 20K is the main distance, a circular route through the sierra with demanding climbs and technical descents through pine forests. The Sprint Trail 11K offers a more accessible alternative that shares the best sections of the longer course.
March in the sierra
The race takes place in late March, when the sierra is just emerging from winter. Temperatures can range from 2°C at the start to 15°C at midday, with a possibility of rain or even snow at the highest points. The terrain may be wet and muddy in some sections, adding an extra layer of technical difficulty.
