Terrain
The Canary Islands are a geological playground for runners. In Tenerife, Teide at 3,718 meters offers trails over lava, volcanic ash and landscapes that look otherworldly. Gran Canaria packs deep ravines, Canarian pine forests and summits like Roque Nublo that combine technical running with endless views. La Palma contributes the Caldera de Taburiente, a giant crater with vertigo-inducing trails. And in La Gomera, the laurel forest of Garajonay is a journey to the Tertiary era. Each island is a world unto itself: you can go from black volcanic sand to humid forest in 15 kilometers.

Climate & best season
The privilege of the Canary Islands is that you can run all 12 months of the year. Coastal temperatures hover around 20-25 °C year-round, while summit temperatures can drop below 5 °C. Summer is viable if you avoid midday hours in low areas. In winter, while mainland Spain is under snow, the big races take place here: Transgrancanaria in February, Tenerife Bluetrail in June, Transvulcania in autumn. The key is altitude: each island has microclimates that change dramatically with elevation.
Trail culture
The Canary Islands are an international trail running destination in their own right. Transgrancanaria, with over 125 km through the ravines of Gran Canaria, is one of the most prestigious ultras on the world calendar and is part of the Ultra-Trail World Tour. Transvulcania traverses La Palma's volcanic spine in an experience unlike any other race. The archipelago attracts thousands of runners every year who combine training with active tourism — the trail infrastructure is excellent, with well-marked paths, perfect climate and air connections to all of Europe.
