Gomera Paradise Trail

Gomera Paradise Trail is La Gomera’s flagship race, and 2026 is its most special edition yet: the island has been chosen to host the Skyrunning World Championships by the International Skyrunning Federation (ISF). The world’s best skyrunners will gather in San Sebastián de La Gomera to compete on a course that embodies pure Canarian contrast.

A course of contrasts

The Sky 30K with 2,536 metres of elevation gain is a roller coaster through La Gomera’s geography. The course alternates between:

  • Dry ravines — Steep descents through barren ravine beds with intense heat and zero shade
  • Garajonay laurel forest — Humid woodland declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with slippery trails among ferns and moss
  • Ridges and summits — Wind-exposed sections with views of Teide and the neighbouring islands
  • San Sebastián — Start and finish in the island’s capital

The combination of extreme verticality (2,536m D+ in just 30 km), humidity, heat, and technical terrain makes Gomera Paradise one of the most demanding events on the Canarian circuit. Find the right shoes for this varied terrain in our best trail running shoes for 2026 guide.

Skyrunning World Championships 2026

La Gomera’s selection as the World Championship venue is no accident. The island offers unique terrain that tests every skyrunning skill: explosive climbs, technical descents, constant terrain changes, and an unparalleled natural setting. Garajonay National Park, with its ancient laurel forest, is one of the most singular landscapes where one can compete.

La Gomera, the secret island

La Gomera is the least crowded Canary Island and an ideal destination for combining competition with disconnection. Beyond the race, the island offers Garajonay National Park, the basalt columns of Los Órganos (only visible from the sea), volcanic beaches, and authentic cuisine. The Silbo Gomero, a whistled language declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is a unique cultural experience.
