Triku Trail: the dolmen race in Etxarri-Aranatz

Triku Trail is a mountain race held in Etxarri-Aranatz (Navarra), in the heart of the Sakana valley. In its 12th edition, it has become one of the most distinctive events on the Navarrese trail calendar thanks to its route steeped in history and nature.

The race follows the historic PR NA-133 trail, catalogued by anthropologist Joxe Miel Barandiaran, passing by 8 ancient dolmens. The course runs almost entirely through oak and beech forests, making it a shaded race even in the middle of summer.

The course: forests and dolmens

Triku Trail offers two distances:

  • 21K with 1,300 m elevation gain: the full route along the dolmen trail
  • 10K with 560 m elevation gain: a more accessible version through the forests of Etxarri

Both courses start from Camping Etxarri and head into the forests surrounding the village. The terrain combines forest trails with more technical sections through roots and rocks, always under the canopy of oak and beech trees.

Key course highlights:

  • Almost entirely shaded
  • 8 dolmens along the historic route
  • Forest terrain with roots and technical trails
  • No summit: the experience is the forest itself

Etxarri-Aranatz: heart of the Sakana valley

Etxarri-Aranatz is a Navarrese village in the Sakana valley, halfway between Pamplona and San Sebastián. Surrounded by mountains and forests, it is an ideal location for trail running and hiking.

The race counts toward the Euskal Herria Mountain Racing Cup, attracting runners from across the region. Check out more races in Navarra and plan your season with the planner.
