Festival Cavalls del Vent

The Festival Cavalls del Vent is a non-competitive mountain march that covers the full Cavalls del Vent circuit in the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park, linking eight mountain huts in a circular loop. The name refers to Tibetan prayer flags (Lung-Ta, “wind horses”) that fly on the mountain passes along the route.

Three distances — OPEN (84K), HALF (38K), and Dégustation (28K) — let you discover this Pyrenean circuit at different levels of challenge. The OPEN scores on the UTMB Index (100K category) and awards 4 ITRA points.

The course

The OPEN completes the circuit of all eight Cadí-Moixeró huts in a counter-clockwise direction, starting from Refugi del Rebost in Bagà. 84 kilometres and 5,600 metres of elevation gain through a landscape that alternates between:

  • Cadí limestone ridges - Traversing above 2,400m with views of Pedraforca
  • Pedraforca (2,506m) - The forked mountain, an icon of the Catalan Pyrenees
  • Black pine and fir forests - Transitions between altitudinal zones
  • Alpine meadows - Open passes between huts
  • Gorges and waterfalls - Deep valleys of the Cadí-Moixeró

The mountain huts

The circuit links eight mountain huts that serve as aid stations during the festival. At each one, you stamp your passport — a tradition that makes Cavalls del Vent a unique experience among ultra trail events. The huts provide food and drink, reducing the weight you need to carry.

Non-competitive format

Unlike a conventional race, the Festival Cavalls del Vent is a non-competitive march. There is no ranking or position prizes. However, timing is official and scores on UTMB Index and ITRA, making it an interesting option to accumulate qualification points in a more relaxed format. Use our time estimator to plan your passage through the huts.

Night in the mountains

The OPEN has a 24-hour time limit with a 5:00 AM start. Most participants spend the night in the mountains. A powerful headlamp with spare batteries is essential. June nights on the Cadí ridges can drop below 5 degrees — milder than October but still cold at altitude.
