Ultra Montaña Palentina

The Ultra Montaña Palentina (UTMP) takes place every September in Camporredondo de Alba, a small village nestled in the heart of the Montaña Palentina range (Palencia). Organized by Club Puentecillas, it is one of the premier trail running events in Castilla y León and is part of the European EMA Off-Road Running Circuit.

The distances

The 2026 edition offers five races:

  • Ultra Montaña Palentina 65K — 4,500m D+, 18-hour cutoff. The flagship race traverses the most iconic peaks of the Montaña Palentina, reaching above 2,000 meters at several points. Starts from Camporredondo de Alba.
  • Maratón Montaña Palentina 44K — 3,510m D+, 9-hour cutoff. Starts from Puente Agudín and shares part of the course with the ultra.
  • Trail Fuentes Carrionas 21K — 1,150m D+, 5-hour cutoff. Starts from Cardaño de Arriba, ideal for those seeking a shorter distance without giving up the mountain experience.
  • Start Trail 6K — 300m D+. An introductory race for first-time trail runners.
  • Young Trail 6K — 300m D+. For young runners aged 13 to 18.

The terrain

The Montaña Palentina is a limestone massif at the northern tip of Palencia province, between the Cantabrian Mountains and the Castilian plateau. The courses traverse spectacular landscapes: the Agujas de Cardaño, Pozo de las Lomas, Cascada de Mazobre, and Collado de Arra. Technical high-mountain terrain with shepherd trails, exposed ridges, and loose rock sections. Check the mandatory gear checklist before registering.

Camporredondo de Alba

Camporredondo de Alba is a small Palentine village beside the Camporredondo reservoir, at the foot of the Montaña Palentina. A mountain setting with oak and beech forests, where nature dominates the landscape. It serves as the event hub and the start/finish point for the Ultra and Young Trail.

September weather

September in the Montaña Palentina brings pleasant temperatures in the valleys, but above 2,000 meters conditions can change rapidly: wind, rain, fog, and sudden temperature drops. Preparation for any weather scenario is essential, especially for the 18-hour Ultra where you transition from day to night.
