Neveros Vertical

Neveros Vertical is a vertical kilometer that climbs over 1,000 meters of elevation in 5 kilometers up the slopes of Moncayo mountain. The race starts in Ágreda (Soria), at the foot of the highest peak in the Iberian System (2,314m).

The Course

5 kilometers of climbing with over 1,000 meters of elevation gain. The course follows the same route that once hosted a World Championship circuit, which gives an idea of the technical level and terrain difficulty.

The average gradient exceeds 20%, with sections that go well beyond. It’s not a uniform climb: Moncayo combines forest tracks, technical singletrack and high-mountain terrain as altitude is gained.

Moncayo

At 2,314 meters, Moncayo is the roof of the Iberian System and a mountain with character. From the holm oaks at the base to the snow patches that give the race its name (the “neveros” were snow accumulations that locals used in summer), the runner crosses several bioclimatic zones in a single ascent.

The Moncayo Natural Park protects beech forests, oak groves and rich wildlife including griffon vultures and deer. The Sorian side, less known than the Aragonese, offers a wilder and more solitary landscape.

SORIA PURO OXÍGENO Circuit

The Neveros Vertical is a scoring race for the SORIA PURO OXÍGENO Trail Running Circuit, promoted by the Soria Provincial Council. An initiative to showcase the Sorian mountains through sport.

A Top-Level Vertical Challenge

A vertical kilometer is a test of pure power. The effort is maximum and pacing is critical. Trekking poles are allowed and highly recommended to distribute the effort on such a sustained climb.
