Santa Cruz Extreme

Santa Cruz Extreme brings skyrunning to the heart of Anaga, Tenerife’s oldest mountain massif. Just a few kilometres from the capital, the trails plunge into one of Europe’s most important laurel forest reserves: a humid woodland that seems to belong to another geological era.

Anaga: Tenerife’s jungle

Anaga Rural Park is a natural jewel on the doorstep of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The 25K Anaga Xtrm course with 1,460m of elevation gain combines:

  • Ancient laurel forest — Humid woodland with giant ferns, mosses, and lichen-covered trees
  • Deep ravines — Technical descents through narrow river beds
  • Anaga ridges — Knife-edge trails with Atlantic views on both sides
  • Rural hamlets — Passing through traditional villages like Afur, Chinamada, and Taborno

The combination of humidity, technical terrain, and elevation gain makes Anaga a singular challenge within the Canarian skyrunning circuit.

Santa Cruz, the perfect base

The logistical advantage of Santa Cruz Extreme is unbeatable: start and finish in Tenerife’s capital, with the airport 15 minutes away, tram, hotels, and restaurants at the race doorstep. October is a perfect time to visit Tenerife, with pleasant temperatures and the island less crowded than in summer.
